UPDATE: Thank you to all our walkers who joined us for a wonderful morning together…See you next year!

The community of L’Arche Daybreak wants to thank everyone who participated in coming out to support this special event– Walk for Hope – on Saturday, May 28th. More and more, the mission of L’Arche Daybreak flows far beyond the boundaries of our homes and programs as we strive to build relationships in the wider community through collaboration. Participation in this event shows us that this is working – thank you!!

This year we partnered with our local BMO Branch at Yonge & Tower Hill and three local high schools – Richmond Hill Secondary School, St. Theresa of Lisieux High School and Jean Vanier Catholic High School. Their presence made such a significant impact through their participation and volunteer involvement.

In the spirit of building a stronger community, Mr. Paul Calandra, MP Markham-Oak Ridges and Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP Markham-Oak Ridges also attended our Walk for Hope. They both spoke in support of L’Arche Daybreak and shared their commitment to work together to increase resources for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Having so many people join us reflects significantly on the power of collaboration in building a more connected community.

Last year we held this event in September and raised over $20,000. This year we are partnering with three local high schools – Jean Vanier Catholic High School, Richmond Hill Secondary School and St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School – in a collaborative effort to raise funds for our homes and programs as well as to promote greater awareness about our community in serving adults with intellectual disabilities across York Region.

More and more, the mission of L’Arche Daybreak flows far beyond the boundaries of its homes and programs. L’Arche Daybreak continues to break new ground not only around the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, but around the fundamental value of people with intellectual disabilities in creating a dynamic and compassionate society.

Your support can help to make an impact on the lives of so many people living with an intellectual disability, their families and the community at large.
