Today, there is an extensive waiting list for adults with intellectual disabilities to find day program opportunities in York Region. More than 400 people are on this list – a number that is projected to double in four years. The needs of these individuals are deemed ‘emergency.’
L’Arche Daybreak is embarking on a $1.5 million campaign to expand programs to accommodate more adults with intellectual disabilities from the wider community. Once our financial goal is met, this expansion will create many new signs of hope for people with intellectual disabilities, their families and the greater community. At the same time, it will provide a stellar example of building capacity for social service organizations.
