Campaign Priorities: The Craft Studio

soh-450
Art is one of the most meaningful forms of communication – an expression of imagination and honesty where both artist and audience are transformed through the exchange.
The Craft Studio inspires our core members to explore their artistry, and provides recognition for the artist.
Early donors to the “Signs of Hope” campaign have already assisted us in completing the first phase of capital expansion – a major addition to our Craft Studio. The renovation not only significantly improved our ceramics and candle studios, but has also created a fully operational paper-making studio. As a result, we have already expanded Daybreak’s day program capacity by 15 percent.
The Craft Studio is an integral part of the L’Arche Daybreak community. This vibrant program allows artisans with intellectual disabilities to share their abundant talents with thousands of people every year. The current facility now has three separate studios where we produce unique pieces of pottery, mosaics, paper art, and candles – artwork we take great pride in creating. Our connection with the local community is strong. We have contracts with various establishments to provide quality pottery for use in coffee shops and for sale in art stores.

I started volunteering at L’Arche Daybreak because of what I thought I could give to this community; today, I find myself volunteering because of what I am receiving.

Life Story

soh-cs-susan_joe

Joey Schulist started coming to our programs in 2000, when he graduated from high school. His Mother, Helen, has been a long-time advocate for Joey and really wanted him to come to L’Arche. Joey has a great personality and has made many friends at Daybreak. He enjoys storytelling and notices so much of nature that surrounds him, bringing this to the attention of others who might otherwise not notice. Joey has truly been a great addition to our programs and takes great pride in his work.
