Campaign Priorities: Big House

soh-925

The Big House was the first L’Arche community home to be formed in North America and is the cornerstone of L’Arche Daybreak. This storied building has gone through many transformations and now houses our community’s offices and meeting rooms. Historically rich, the Big House has its drawbacks making a restoration of the building a necessity.
While preserving its original character, a restoration will make the building more fully accessible and welcoming to everyone.
The restoration has already begun with the installation of an elevator to provide greater accessibility. An inviting reception area will allow for better efficiency in work flow while opening areas for additional meeting and gathering spaces. As well, the infrastructure must be upgraded to make this 80-year-old building more environmentally friendly.

Working together

The restoration will create new opportunities for people with disabilities to work in our administrative offices, providing vital support for daily activities. We embrace the day we can welcome all our core members back into the Big House.

When core members come to the Big House to work, they remind us of how to live the mission – being together and sharing the load.

Life Story

Amanda Winnington-Ingramis one of our youngest core members at Daybreak, came to live at the Red House in 2005. She has truly brought new life and energy into the community with her love for music and dance. She is a vibrant young woman with a passion for the movies and going to concerts. Amanda works in a number of programs and really enjoys coming to work at the office. The Development team recognizes Amanda as a real asset in helping with the mailings which go out regularly from the office. While Amanda has an open disposition to chat and be friendly, she also works hard and always does her job with great care and pride.
