| 11 | Dec. 21, 2007 | Carl MacMillan | Remembering Alia Qureshi - July 13th 1972 - December 19th 2007 | Alia died on Wednesday morning, shortly before nine, surrounded by her
family and many friends from Daybreak who loved her dearly. We gathered
that morning at Dayspring for what we had planned as a prayer service
for Alia. It became a time to begin to live our grief. |
| 12 | Dec. 20, 2007 | John Guido | Christmas Letter from John Guido, Regional Coordinator for L'Arche Ontario | Yesterday, Alia from Daybreak died and was buried (within
hours according to Islamic tradition). I am sad that this precious woman has
died and grieve for her devoted family and many friends. I also feel an
emptiness inside because I was not present for her dying and for her funeral. I
did not ‘attend’ to Alia and to her loved ones. I am peaceful knowing that her
family, L’Arche and faith communities, and many dear friends attended to her in
their final acts of care and service. |
| 9 | Dec. 11, 2007 | Jim Coyle, Toronto Star | Holiday Spirit Will Find You - Appeared originally in the Toronto Star | You
can look a long time in this season of the angst-making "Scary Merrys"
– trolling the malls, wading through stacks of stuff, numbed by the
carols that have been playing now for weeks – trying to find the spirit
of Christmas. Often, however, it's not in
stock. If it's to
be found at all, it sneaks up on you, finding you rather than you
finding it. I found it the other day in the mailbox,
where tidings of comfort and joy had arrived from the folks at L'Arche
Daybreak. |
